Sky Sports Pundit Johnny Nelson Wears D-ROCK Live on TV!
What's the Story?
Johnny Nelson has been retired from professional boxing since 2005, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been busy since hanging up his gloves. Johnny still trains in his hometown at Sheffield Boxing Centre, while his post-fight career took him to TV and a role as a boxing presenter, co-commentator and pundit with Sky Sports, where he's still active today. As a result it's not surprising at all to see him make an appearance on Sky Sports' live coverage of the Break Through boxing event broadcast live on the channel, but his choice of wardrobe for a recent event certainly made us sit up and take notice!
What was Johnny Wearing?
For his appearance with Sky's team at the Break Through boxing event, Johnny chose D-ROCK apparel for his outfit - in particular boxing fans on the night and on TV will have seen Johnny wearing our 'Forest' full-zip textured jacket - a highly stylish and versatile item that pairs well with any kind of tracksuit bottom, jeans or cargo pants, and which you can buy from our store right now.
Spreading the Word About D-ROCK
First and foremost, we of course want to say thank you to Johnny for choosing to make our brand part of his outfit for that night. We are so excited to see the same clothes that we design and make here at D-ROCK on TV, and on such a big stage as Sky Sports coverage of the event too. We may have dreamed about a situation like this when we started out with D-ROCK - but to see such a dream turn into a reality really is something else!
We certainly hope that Johnny's appearance on Sky is just the beginning of something bigger. In a way, now that he's made that appearance he has become something of an ambassador for our brand, but there's no reason why he has to be the only one! If you're a fan of D-ROCK you can also help us just as Johnny has.
You can of course see more of our outfits on our online store, on Facebook and Instagram - but by spreading the word and introducing someone else to D-ROCK through your social media audience, streaming platforms such as Twitch or YouTube, or even just letting your friends and family know about us, you'll be helping us grow and create more great clothes in the future! What's more, if you have an upcoming event coming up where you plan on wearing some D-ROCK gear yourself or if you did so recently - likewise give us a shout!
More about Johnny Nelson
On occasion Nelson did box as a light-heavyweight, but the cruiserweight division is where he made his name. Johnny is a multiple-time cruiserweight champion who has held titles across no fewer than seven different boxing organisations throughout his career, including the BBBoC, EBU, IBF, WBC, WBF (World Boxing Foundation), WBU (World Boxing Union) and WBO. He was crowned as cruiserweight champion at least once by all of these sporting bodies, and his run as WBO champion included no fewer than 13 successful title defences between 1999 and 2005. When Johnny retired from active competition he did so with a record of 45 wins (29 by knockout) 12 losses and 2 draws from 59 fights.
Alongside his glittering boxing career, Johnny is a champion of diversity and inclusion, as well an advocate for mental health awareness. Like D-ROCK founder Rumni, he has also been personally affected by mental health, and discusses this eloquently in this clip. Johnny is a highly articulate, charismatic motivational speaker, who discusses topics such as racism and mental health awareness.
This is just one more reason why we were delighted when Johnny gave us a shout out on Twitter a few months ago. He wrote: " Great night in Coventry including special guest Amir King Khan. Big shout out to Rumni Thamman too for the jacket. Inspiring guy who is doing brilliant things to raise awareness of mental health." We’re certainly very happy to have received such a shoutout from a fellow champion of our cause, and that tweet (pictured on the right), has been a great source of pride for everyone here at D-ROCK HQ.
More about Sky Sports
Quite simply, Sky Sports is the go-to sports broadcasting network in the UK. Perhaps best known for their Premier League coverage, including shows like Friday Night Football, Monday Night Football or Soccer Saturday, and a raft of well-known Sky Sports football presenters including some of the game's biggest names - legends like Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher, and more.
However, Sky Sports is not a one-trick pony. The same knowledge and enthusiasm you'll see from the football pundits is matched by Sky Sports pundits and presenters from other sports too - and the channel covers everything from the glitz and glamour of Formula One to Billiards, Fishing, and plenty more besides. You can of course count boxing amongst the sports they cover too, and today Johnny Nelson is one of the highly knowledgeable and familiar faces behind their top-notch boxing coverage!
